The Playboy collecting issue.....
Now Playing: Ebay's runaround!
So, for the past four years I have been collecting "adult material" - sounds odd, yes. But not typical trash or smut... truely collectable and interesting adult content. Four years doesn't seem like a long time, especially since most men have been doing almost the same thing for their entire life. But I am a 22 year old female, and I've only know about it for a 4 years.
Anyway - to the point. My boyfriend is going through an expensive custody battle, and I offered my help, financially, by selling my NEARLY COMPLETE Playboy collection on Ebay. Now, an almost full set of issues from 1968 to 2001 is a pretty impressive collection - for ANY Playboy collector!
So, I posted mt pride and joy in the category that I found all the other collectable issues of Playboy. There was no other lot like mine - most of them contained a few select issues, some had one full year. Nothing that even compared to my collection!
I listed it starting at $101.00 dollars (.50 cents and issue - and I know, being a collector that many of the issues are worth upwards of $20 bucks a piece!) I knew that it would bring interested collectors... especially being a nearly complete collection!!
It was listed for a total of 10 hours, before it got it's first bid, and 5 watchers. I was excited knowing what my magazines were worth... and knowing that other "ebayer" did as well. WELL - an hour later, I was online again, and MY LISTING WAS GONE!! I recieved an email from Ebay saying that my collection, was nothing more than dirty rotten PORN - and belonged in the Mature Audiences section.
Not because Playboy is the softest "porn" ever created, not because Playboy is generally thought of as a "Men's society magazine" (to coin the ancient phrase of Hugh Heffner) - but because Ebay has suddenly become the authority on the collectability of Playboy magazines... and no issue post 1980 is collectable!
Now this is a bunch of B.S. if you ask me. I know that Ebay's intention is to "protect" underage viewers from being able to purchase such a collection... but at the asking price (and as much as shipping would cost...) no one under 30 would be willing to pay it! (I know, because I'm under thirty... and I wouldn't... all my collection was donated from friends wives!)
Not only that, but I was not in violation with my pictures of the lot... aside from the fact that I included more than two photos. The law that governs over adult material stipulates that magazines that can be sold in a store that is not an adult store (18+) must have a minimum of revealed skin, no exposed areola, nothing between the legs - basically the same rules that the LOTION COMMERCIALS are required to abide by!! And I didn't even picture the "risque" covers, only the ones including famouse cover models - the collectable ones! FOR REAL - like Nancy Sinatra is a pornographic image, people!! PUH-LEEZE!
The only way that I would beable to re-list my collection, would be to sell it at LIVE AUCTION, or in the Mature Audiences category. Like I said - I was trying to pay for a part of a custody battle with these magazines - so like I have the money to spend to put it up Live Auction!! (Be serious, Ebay) So, my next option is the Mature Audiences category. Which is unsearched when a buyer uses Ebay Keywords, next to impossible to find when browsing (I had to use LIVE HELP just to get there!) and once you do find it, you must register, provide your credit card information, and EACH time you go there, it's just as difficult.
So, the one bidder that I had, prior to my being black listed by ebay - will not be able to find the collection. YOU KNOW WHY!!!??? BECAUSE HE WAS A COLLECTOR!! Not a "porno junkie" - someone who appreciated the value and class of Playboy, and obviously understood how rare a find a nearly complete FULL COLLECTION was!! And if I were searching for it - YOU KNOW WHERE I WOULD LOOK!? The collectable magazine category... the very same place I was banned with this item!!
Being an almost complete collection - HALF of the issues would be okay to list in that category, and of course the other half would not. It would be ludcrious for me to split up such a valuable collection - because then, the one half I had to list elsewhere, wouldn't sell. (I imagine everyone in the Mature Audiences section, alread has the issues from the past ten years!!)
I even have autographed issues - of course post 1980, included in the collection - and still - they are not collectable (by Ebay's standards).......
So now my collection is included in the Mature Audiences category.... again the only lot like it... but for a much different reason this time.
So if you're interested in checking it out... or want to see what was is so appaling about the issues after 1980 - check out this link this link. And these pictures.
And you want to see what's so appaling about this blog, then I think you have. So thank you, And happy bidding!

Welcome
Now Playing: The Explaination!
My name is Sarah, and I am a seller on Ebay. I live with my boy friend Chris. He and I have been sellers on Ebay for a few months. It is something that we really like doing - however at times it can be irritating. I decided to create this blog to vent some of thie things about Ebay that really irk me, and friends of mine, and who knows who else!
We aren't exactly the type of people that you would think of when you think of Ebay. We are very young, probably what most would consider, "hoodlums" - and we have this insanely avid interest in antiques and colelctables. We sell them on Ebay regularly. We are hunting for them all the time, and even durring our hunts, we are looked at weird.... like I said - we aren't exactly the type of people that you think of when you think of Ebay - or Antiques and Collectables either!
Because we aren't the typical Ebay Yuppie, we have some things to say about it sometimes. Things that need to be changed if Ebay wants to keep it's huge customer base moving into the next generation. Because, honestly, we are the next generation of "Ebayers" - like it or not. As I can tell sometimes, some people DON'T like it all.
And that's what this blog is all about, actually. An outright rant & rave in a semi-friendly tone, directed towards Ebay, and the things that surround the "Ebay world". Things need to be a little different if in the near future, the people, the new generation of "Ebayers" are going to keep coming.... and keep being satisfied!
This blog is not just for young people, or young Ebayers. I am sure that many "old schoolers" feel the same way... that's because they are old schoolers, so they know what's up!
Even if you aren't a current Ebay seller, or buyer, and you just stumbled onto this page - you might actually want to follow this blog.... and learn a thing or eleventy ninety, about Ebay. It wont hurt!
It is said that Ebay is an entire lifestyle for some people.... and it is. OUR Ebay lifestyle - is quite different from the conventional, though. And that's not a bad thing!
